Find the answers to some frequently asked questions, based on each specific volunteer position at EFA!
Our Graphic Designers create attractive and impactful visual content that is delivered to EFA’s social media audiences in their final form. In this position, Graphic Designers work very closely with EFA’s Digital Artists, where they help finalize and prepare the posts that go up on our social media platforms being Instagram, Medium, Facebook, and much more. Graphic Designers are also expected to attend weekly meetings with the complete Graphics Team (digital artists & mentors) over Zoom. The time commitment for Graphic Designers is 2-4 hours/week.
The prerequisites are as followed:
Ability to use Adobe XD or quickly adapt to it
Previous experience with Adobe (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Experience in flyer or web design; overall graphic design skills
The ability to express creativity, effective communication skills, and open-mindedness
A 1-10 piece portfolio submitted in the initial application
Not a requirement, but encouraged: Familiar with website design through Wix.
The EFA Web Designer role requires one to act as an intermediary between the organization and our audience. This is achieved by ensuring that the website effectively conveys EFA's goals to its visitors. The web designer will work on creating visual graphics and adding them alongside the text on the webpage in such a way that maximizes viewer engagement . Although most of the work will be minor updates to the website that improve user experience, sometimes new webpages will be added to represent a new part of EFA's goals.
The prerequisites are as follows:
Overall graphic design skills
Previous experience with Adobe (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Familiarity with website design through Wix
The ability to express creativity, effective communication skills, and open-mindedness
A 1-10 piece graphic design portfolio submitted in the initial application
Beneficial but not required: Basic knowledge of programming
Our Video Production Team Members help create high-quality and passion filled content for promotional and creative aspects of EFA content. In this position, members will focus on writing, filming and editing videos with a needed proficiency in all subject matters. Members will also get to work on interdepartmental projects, along with working closely with the Promotional and Speakers for Education team. Volunteers in this position are expected to attend weekly meetings over Zoom. Time commitment within the Video Production Team is around 3-5 hours a week.
The prerequisites are as followed:
Fluency in English; written and spoken
Proficiency in Scripting and filming videos
Strong communication skills
Not a requirement, but encouraged: Ability to use professional software such an Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro X and/or Magic Davinci Resolve
The Wechat content writer speaks directly to EFA’s audience through the writing of articles. As EFA’s voice on Wechat, it is very important that your writing can appeal to the audience. Our content writer works closely with other members of the Chinese outreach team. The content writer will be required to attend a weekly meeting with the team. Time commitment for this position is 3-6 hours per week.
The prerequisites are as follows:
Ability to write in simplified Chinese
Creativity
Collaboration skills
A portfolio showcasing 2-10 pieces of writing in the initial application
Recommended but not required: fluency in Mandarin, experience in creative writing
The Weibo account manager will be responsible for making posts for the weibo account to raise awareness of EFA’s cause and reach out to prospective volunteers. Additionally, there will also be a mandatory weekly meeting. As the Weibo account manager, you will get the chance to collaborate with other team members to brainstorm and create content is a critical part of the role.
The prerequisites are as follows:
Familiarity with Weibo
Ability to write in simplified Chinese
Collaboration skills
Strongly recommended but not required: fluency in Mandarin
The Moon Project teachers will be mainly working on teaching art and designing art courses. Teachers will work creatively using their artistic skills to influence and impact the creative minds of the future generation.
Teachers in this position will first go through a month-long training program consisting of weekly team meetings, sessions, and offline training assignments. Once completed, teachers will be able to pair up with each other and teach students how to make art once a week. All teachers are expected to attend weekly team meetings and short reflection meetings (each time after class ends).
The prerequisites are as follows:
Complete fluency in Mandarin
Collaborative skills to work efficiently in a team
Ability to think creatively, to express ideas efficiently, and to be passionate
A 1-10 piece portfolio submitted in the initial application that showcase applicants’ artistic skills and artistic passion.
Encouraged but not required: Art history background
Being an English Education Teacher, you will be required to teach two 1-hour sessions per week in addition to attending your pod meetings. You will be teaching English to students of assigned grade levels with designated slides. You will also be able to get creative with your lessons and involve other resources such as YouTube videos to make your lessons more engaging! Accepted teachers will have to complete a 1-month training program containing weekly workshops and sessions. After they pass the final examination, teachers will be paired into partners and teach English, Active participation in classes and pod meetings will be required.
